Gmail now helps you write and refine your emails (under one condition)
In August 2024, Google announced two email writing help features for Gmail: “Help me Write” and “Refine my draft”, which are available today. The first aims to write you an email in response to another email, taking into account the context. So, by using this method, you no longer need to write an email: Google takes care of it for you. Furthermore, “Refine my Draft” has another purpose: to improve and refine an email that you have already written, by correcting spelling mistakes and formatting your email, for example.

So how does it work, practically? To see the “Help Me Write” shortcut, simply leave the email field empty, without writing on it. In this case, the shortcut appears and offers you the possibility of generating a response email in a few seconds. To take advantage of the “Refine my draft” function, conversely, simply write more than 12 words to see the shortcut appear, and offer Google the possibility of improving your draft, depending on a few factors. Using this method, it is for example possible to formalize the email, shorten it or, on the contrary, elaborate it.
But then, is this functionality accessible to everyone, and from today? Not really. Google confirms what we feared: these new features are coming first to Google Workspace users with Gemini Business, Enterprise or Education subscriptions. Owners of a Google One Ai Premium account can also benefit from it. The Gmail update began on October 28, and could take up to 15 days to reach everyone. In any case, this function is not available to ordinary Gmail users, who are not subscribed to Gemini.
