Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro: between XXL batteries and their Snapdragon 8 Elite, the two smartphones hit hard
The expected wave of announcements is starting to roll in. While the Snapdragon 8 Elite was made official a few days agothe first smartphones equipped with the new chipset high-end products from Qualcomm are starting to enter the market. And if many models are expected in the coming days or weeks, such as the Asus ROG Phone 9 or the Realme GT7 Proit is indeed the Xiaomi 15 series which shows itself first. The range is now official on the Chinese market, and is revealed with some interesting features to say the least.
The Xiaomi 15 Pro is obviously the best equipped of the duo, pending the very probable formalization of an Ultra model at the beginning of next year. You have to count on some great assets, starting with a 6.73-inch screen displaying 3200 x 1440 pixels, benefiting from an adaptive refresh rate (LTPO) of up to 120 Hz and a maximum brightness announced at 3200 cd /m². Under its hood which clearly recalls that of the Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro (161.3 x 75.3 x 8.35 mm for 213 grams), it is the Snapdragon 8 Elite that we find at the controls, with its 3 nm engraving and the promise of powerful very clearly increasing, accompanied by functions linked to artificial intelligence. This chip is backed by 12 to 16 GB of RAM, while storage of 256 GB to 1 TB is expected.
The 14 series was photo-oriented as is its heir. It is therefore a 50 megapixel Lyt-900 sensor, accompanied by an lens opening at f/1.44, which acts as the main module. A second module, also 50 Mpx (optics equivalent to 120 mm), provides a 5x zoom, and a third 50 Mpx module accompanied by ultra-wide-angle optics completes the package. Note that the smartphone is capable of filming up to 8K.
One last feature, and not the least, should be remembered: the smartphone is equipped with a 6100 mAh battery, a particularly high capacity considering the weight of the smartphone. We note that wired charging at 90 W and wireless charging at 50 W is available.
A premium, but lightweight model
The Xiaomi 15 is slightly more compact, and its weight does not exceed 191 grams. And for good reason: it has a 6.36-inch display, like the Xiaomi 14. It nevertheless benefits from the same technical configuration as the Pro model, except for the battery, whose capacity goes at 5400 mAh at home. However, this is much more than the 4610 mAh of the Xiaomi 14, and this gives hope for a notable gain in endurance. Finally, we note that the telephoto module of the device offers a focal length equivalent to 60 mm, or a 2.5x zoom.
The two smartphones are announced today in China, under the second version of the HyperOS interface, based on Android 15. Price-wise, count on a minimum of 5,299 yuan for the 15 Pro (€688 excluding tax for raw conversion), and of 4499 yuan for the Xiaomi 15 (approximately €583). The international launch date of the two products – if they are both concerned -, but also their prices including tax and of course their software service, duration of updates included, still remain to be specified.
