Ecological bonus 2025: the budget is collapsing and that's not the only bad news
According to The Auto Journalthe government is preparing a drastic reduction in the ecological bonus for 2025. While the 2024 budget was 1.5 billion euros and a first reduction to 1 billion was announced for 2025, the envelope would ultimately be reduced to 700 million euros.
The envelope would increase to 700 million euros
The new budget cut will affect three types of aid: the ecological bonus but also the scrappage bonus, which could even be completely eliminated, and social leasing. Regarding this last device, it is rumored that the conditions would be less advantageous, both in terms of amounts and eligibility criteria.
The ecological bonus, currently set at 4,000 euros for everyone and increased to 7,000 euros for low-income households, risks being particularly impacted. If a reduction to 3,000 euros was already envisaged, the amount could be even lower. The additional premium for low-income households, maintained in 2024, could be significantly reduced. The wealthiest households could completely lose access to this assistance.
These restrictions worry the automobile industry, while this aid plays a crucial role in the transition to electric vehicles. The precise details of these new measures should be announced at the beginning of November, in a context where the government is looking for budgetary savings.
