Apple plans to improve the screen of the next iPad Air and iMac, and it's not a moment too soon!
With the aim of segmenting its ranges, Apple is quite timid around the panels of its devices. Indeed, iPad Pros, iPhone Pro And MacBook Pro remain undeniably the best off, with more advanced technologies (Mini-Led and Oled) and better display frequencies (ProMotion).
However, all would not be lost for other headed products. The Upgrade podcast on November 4, 2024, hosted by Myke Hurley and Jason Snell, indeed mentions something new for the refresh rate of the iPad Air, the24-inch iMac and the Studio Display.
According to an anonymous source who spoke with the two podcasters, Apple is considering moving these three devices into the 90 Hz world. In details, the iPad Air with M3 chip would be the first affected by this new refresh rate, thus abandoning the traditional 60 Hz panel of its predecessors.
This is the first time that we have heard of this potential development which would finally improve the fluidity of the screens of Apple tablets, with the exception of the iPad Pro. Indeed, the Apple firm's high-end tablets have benefited from ProMotion since 2017, thus delivering an adaptive refresh rate of 24-120 Hz. The latter has also fallen to 10-120 Hz in 2024 with the iPad Pro M4.
Note that it won't take long to know if the iPad Air M3s will have 90 Hz panels. Mark Gurman mentioned in fact recently that this new generation would arrive at the start of 2025. A launch alongside theiPhone SE 4 in March seems more than likely.
