Netflix will remove 20 original programs and abandon its interactive content
You might not have known it, but Netflix has been offering interactive programs since 2017, which allow viewers to choose the evolution of a plot. But this type of content, unlike any other, is preparing to leave the mass streaming platform's catalog on December 1, 2024.
No more playing for Netflix
This type of program saw a resurgence in popularity in 2018, with the release of Black Mirror: Bandersnatch. Netflix then developed this content on other franchises with potential, with Carmen Sandiego: High-flying mission (2020), Spirit: Galloping in complete freedom (2020 or Jurassic World: Cretaceous Colo (2022).
At the same time, the platform has also developed quiz programs (TriviaVerse And Trivia Quest), while investing considerably in video games, buying small studios and producing a lot of content for Netflix Games, its gaming service included in all subscriptions.
But these interactive programs do not seem to have met their audience, and Netflix really changed direction on this subject, as confirmed by Chrissy Kelleher, spokesperson for the group: “Technology has served its role, but it is now limited as we focus on technology efforts in other areas.”
Ultimately, of the 24 interactive programs currently offered on Netflix, only 4 will be available after December 1: Black Mirror: Bandersnatch (2018), You vs. Wild (2019), Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend (2020), and Ranveer vs. Wild with Bear Grylls (2022).
Information which reveals the difficulties of the streaming giant in finding a place in the video game territory. This massive removal also comes as Mike Verdu, Netflix's video game manager, has just changed roles and been named vice president of “GenAI for Games”, indicating the streaming giant's investment in intelligence artificial.
