Android 16 could offer more control to Gemini
Little by little, Gemini takes on the role of Google Assistant, through various updates offering it more and more blatant control. Thus, the publication AndroidAuthority reveals in particular that there are new APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) in Android 16 which could give even more control to Gemini. And by control, we mean the ability to manage what happens in other applications on your device.
Gemini picks up where Google Assistant left off
Gemini could order food for you using Uber Eats, for example, without you having to take care of anything. The same goes if you want to call a taxi to get home in the middle of the night. Gemini would thus obtain access that was until now completely restricted when using the Google Assistant, which would allow Google's artificial intelligence to have unprecedented control. Today, it is possible to allow Gemini to access third-party applications such as Gmail, Google Maps, Spotify or WhatsApp, but only through dedicated extensions (to be knowingly installed on your smartphone). On Android 16Gemini could have these accesses directly, without requiring the installation of such an extension.
Moreover, this is not the only information related to Gemini to have fallen this weekend: we also discover (still at AndroidAuthority) that Gemini Live's advanced voice mode could allow you to have conversations with artificial intelligence about your YouTube video consumption. This way, you can try to have a “natural” conversation with Gemini Live about a video that you are watching on your smartphone. You will have understood: Google has a simple objective with Gemini, namely to make it essential in your daily use, even if it means playing with the limits of the intrusive.
