(Parisian) fans of immersive cinema have something to rejoice at the end of 2024. This Wednesday, December 18, the Géode will find interest beyond its exterior decorative aspect. The 36 meter diameter steel sphere located in the 19th arrondissement of the capital will once again open its doors, after 6 years of renovation work.

Enough to see documentaries, but also the latest releases in unique conditions and in line with modern technologies.

The zero ball

Opened in 1985 and a pioneer in immersive cinema with its dome format and 180° hemispherical projection, the Géode was bought by Pathé in 2018. After a few months of operation, the theater was closed on November 30, 2018 to begin its long renovations necessary.

Today, the room equipped with an IMAX Laser 4K projector and IMAX 6.0 sound can accommodate just under 300 spectators (compared to 400 previously). For this reopening, three immersive documentaries of 45 minutes each will be offered in the afternoon on its 1000m² screen which covers almost the entire room, namely Blue whales: the return of the giants, T. Rex And Super Human Body.

Lion King and immersion

In the evening, more classic films will be offered in native IMAX, starting with Mufasa: The Lion King.

In terms of prices, it will cost €13 for documentaries and €25 for classic films. Pathé card holders will also have to pay a supplement, of €4 and €8 respectively.

See you in a few months to see if the millions of euros of work invested by Pathé will attract enough crowds.
