Good news for fans of the universe of Dune and the series Dune: Prophecy on Maxit was renewed for a second season by HBO.
The announcement was made a few days before the end of the broadcast of the first season of the show on the Max streaming platformwhich is inspired by the book “The Sisterhood” by Kevin J. Anderson and Brian Herbert.
New plots around Arrakis
Dune: Prophecy takes place 10,000 years before the events of movies Dune by Denis Villeneuve and follows the origins of the Bene Gesserit, a mysterious religious order, through the journey of two Harkonnen sisters, the family who would later betray the Atreides.
The executive producer and showrunner of this prequel series, Alison Schapker, remains at the helm of these new episodes which will continue to feature Emily Watson and Olivia Williams in the guise of Valya and Tula Harkonnen.
“How the Bene Gesserit community will survive is at the heart of season 2,” emphasized Schapker when announcing the renewal of the series.
We don't know exactly what that means yet, especially since the first season hasn't finished yet, but we imagine it involves even more shenanigans on the part of this community of “witches” around control from the planet Arrakis.
The series is co-produced by HBO and Legendary Television and, according to a press release, its first episode attracted more than 15 million viewers across all territories of the Max streaming platform.
As Sarah Aubrey, head of programming for the original Max, said: “Dune: Prophecy has captivated audiences around the world thanks to the visionary eye of showrunner and executive producer Alison Schapker, who will continue to guide this great story of truth and power.
She continues: “We are incredibly grateful to our partners at Legendary, as well as our extraordinary cast and production members, for their service to the Imperium. We look forward to collaborating with this team again to see this that she has in store for us.”
The cast of the show also includes the talents of Mark Strong, Travis Fimmel, Jodhi May, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Josh Heuston and Chris Mason.
