Elon Musk is a “tyrant”: the leader of OpenAI does not spare the billionaire
The rag is burning between Elon Musk and OpenAI. At the beginning of December, the billionaire launched new legal action against the company. His request? May American justice prevent the company from transforming into a totally lucrative structure.
According to Sam Altman, Elon Musk is a “tyrant”
This is not a first. Last August, Elon Musk had already filed a complaint accusing the leaders of OpenAI, led by Sam Altman, of having “manipulated” when co-founding the company. A first similar complaint had already been filed in March, before being withdrawn in June.
Faced with these attacks from Elon Musk, Sam Altman did not hesitate to respond during an interview for The Free Press. The OpenAI leader who recently launched Sora, a video generative AIis straightforward since he describes the billionaire as a “tyrant”.
Sam Altman also does not hesitate to describe it as “someone who likes to fight” while recognizing that Elon Musk is a “legendary entrepreneur” who participated in the beginnings of the company behind ChatGPT.
According to Sam Altman, Elon Musk is annoyed by the recent success of OpenAI and its position as a direct competitor since the creation of xAi in July 2023. According to him, the billionaire “would be happy […] if he was in charge”. The rivalry intensified before the launch of Grok, now accessible for free from X.
Sam Altman also reveals that Elon Musk's departure in 2018 was motivated by his skepticism regarding the future of OpenAI, then a non-profit structure. Since 2019, it has been a capped-for-profit company but could soon evolve into a new status. Hence the fight of the Tesla manager who believes that his competitor is in a monopoly position on the AI markets with ChatGPT.
Donald Trump recently put Elon Musk at the head of a non-federal ministrya decision that Sam Altman welcomes. The manager of OpenAI believes that his rival will not use his favorable position to put obstacles in the way of his competitors. “There are people who can really be assholes on Twitter without abusing the country's system”he concludes. We're waiting to see.
