Assassin's Creed: Valhalla is an action-adventure video game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and is the twelfth installment in the Assassin's Creed series, following Assassin's Creed: Odyssey.

The game takes place in the Viking era, in the 9th century AD, where the player embodies Eivor, a Viking character, whose gender must be determined by the Animus which will represent the most intense male or female memory flow to the moment in question, unless the player wishes to impose it and choose to play the woman or the man. This mode of operation is justified story-wise by the fact that Rebecca Crane found “two distinct data flows in the same DNA”.

Valhalla is the second Assassin's Creed game where the player can choose between a man or a woman as the main protagonist, although the choice that will allow understanding the story in its entirety must be that of the Animus, the canonical choice. Indeed, among the three choices offered in the game, if the player decides to take the woman or the man, he will not understand certain aspects of the story.

Synopsis

Historical context

The game takes place at the beginning of the Anglo-Saxon Middle Ages called the Dark Ages, corresponding to a real period of European history, located between 820 and 920 AD. Two years after the coronation of Alfred the Great as king of Wessex in 873, the first Norman pillages became ambitions for colonization, constituting one of the key elements of the game. Some pillages and battles are thus depicted within the game, such as those of Chippenham or the fourth seat of Paris.
