Ghost of Tsushima: Sony announces the anime adaptation of the cult game for 2027

Every year, the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas is an opportunity for tech giants to take stock of the latest innovations… but not only that! Indeed, Sony took advantage of its press conference which was held on the night of Monday to Tuesday to provide news of future adaptations of its successful video games.
In addition to a teaser of the highly anticipated season 2 of The Last of Usscheduled for April 2025 on the Max platformand the officialization of films Horizon Zero Dawn And Helldiverse 2the Japanese firm also revealed that an animated series based on the game Ghost of Tsushima was in active development.
Exclusively on Crunchyroll
Titled Ghost of Tsushima: Legendsthis future anime is inspired by the video game from Sucker Punch Productions and especially its multiplayer experience of the same name. It is directed by Takanobu Mizuno, already at work on the remarkable episode “The Duel” from the first season of the anthology Star Wars: Visions.

The program will be a co-production between Playstation Productions, the Aniplex studio (Naruto, Full Metal Alchemist, Demon Slayer) and Sony Music which will be responsible for the entire musical and sound dimension of the project.
This one promises to “bringing traditional samurai aesthetics to life with cinematic storytelling and striking visuals”according to Sony's press release.

The animated series will be broadcast exclusively on Crunchyroll during 2027. Created in 2006, the streaming service was bought by Sony in 2021, and has for several years been the leader in anime streaming in the world.
Rahul Purini, president of Crunchyroll, said about Ghost of Tsushima: Legends that “The Ghost of Tsushima series will offer fans an exciting new way to experience the game in an anime style that will be bold and revolutionary.”
Crunchyroll also took advantage of this announcement to unveil its project for an upcoming manga application dedicated to its premium subscribers.

As a reminder, the game Ghost of Tsushima was released in 2020 on PlayStation 4, and tells the story at the end of the 13th century of samurai Jin Sakai, the last survivor of his clan, as he must face a Mongol invasion on his small island of Tsushima.
The game was acclaimed upon release and sold 13 million units. A sequel titled Ghost of Yōtai is due out in 2025 on PlayStation.
