Nvidia GeForce Now: the cloud gaming application arrives in native version on Steam Deck
GeForce Soon on Steam Deck
Valve's portable console gains in versatility. If it was already possible to take advantage of the cloud gaming service GeForce Now on Steam Deck, to do this you had to go through a shortcut to Chrome through the SteamOS desktop mode – a process made possible by Nvidia in May 2024.
Things will change very soon: team green announced the upcoming arrival of a native application that can be downloaded for free during the course of 2025. Nvidia does not specify whether this application will be available directly on the Valve store or whether it will once again be necessary to go through desktop mode.
However, freeing yourself from a web browser should have a significant impact on the ergonomics of use. A video posted online yesterday evening allows us to glimpse the menu of this new GeForce Now app, with Cyberpunk 2077 in action, taking advantage of rendering in high configuration via Nvidia servers boosted with RTX 4080. There is a lot we can bet that the autonomy of the Steam Deck will benefit from the optimizations of this native app, the game in streaming being less resource intensive.
Virtual Insanity
In parallel with this release on Steam Deck, GeForce Now is also arriving on virtual reality headsets. More precisely, these are the devices Apple Vision Pro, Meta Quest 3 and Pico which will gain new compatibility through remote screen modes, which will be available during the month of January. To take advantage of it, you will need to use the on-board web browser and open the play.geforcenow.com page. The entire procedure is detailed in the brand's official press release.
