Folding iPhone: a first idea of the screens chosen by Apple for its 2026 model
While the folding smartphone market has expanded in recent years to many more players than just Samsung, Apple should embark on the adventure from 2026 with a folding iPhone. Its display is also starting to become clearer.
On Twitter/X this January 6, 2025, Jukanlosreve relayed information from Meritz Securities about this. The spoiler mentions more precisely a main panel with a diagonal of between 7.6 and 7.9 inches, and an external screen of 5.3 to 5.5 inches.
The Apple firm would thus come closer to the format proposed by Google with its Pixel Fold released in 2023 (7.6 and 5.8 inches). This would allow it to differentiate itself from Samsung, which offers a narrower display on its Galaxy Z Fold 6 (7.6 and 6.2 inches).
We learn in passing that the producer of the folding iPhone screens would be… Samsung Display. An overall logical choice given the expertise of the South Korean firm in the field, but also the long-standing relationships maintained with Apple for the screens of its iPhones, in particular.
Apple would, however, diversify its supplier portfolio in 2028. “BOE, which has extensive experience in mass production of foldable smartphones, is expected to join the supply chain”thus relays Jukanlosreve.
The leaker adds information on another folding product planned by Apple. He thus underlines that LG Display would work on a larger folding screen, “supposedly for an 18.8-inch iPad”.
However, the performance “mediocre” of the iPad Oled and their high price would delay the arrival of this product, justifying a limited production volume at its launch.
