We discovered it last year, in China, where she made her real debut. Xiaomi's Redmi Note 14 series escapes to our side of the globe and is coming to the French market this January 2025. As always, the brand intends to offer the best quality-price ratio of the moment, and intends to attract all potential buyers over a price range spanning from €200 to €500. To do this, five smartphones are being released: the Redmi Note 14 first, in 4G and 5G versions, the Redmi Note 14 Pro, also available in 4G and 5G versions, and finally the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ 5G, the terminal more upscale of his family. If Xiaomi is bringing out the heavy artillery to this extent, it is not for nothing: its Redmis are among its best-selling devices and give it a 20% market share in France.

Efforts focused on sustainability

Entry-level smartphones are often the poor cousins when it comes to sustainability, particularly software. Xiaomi has made notable efforts for the case of its five Redmi Note 14s, since the entire range will benefit from four OS updates (Android, therefore) and six years of security patches. The manufacturer also promises that the batteries of its devices will withstand four years of use, that is to say that they will retain 80% of their capacity after 1600 cycles. Finally, we note that the Pro 5G and Pro+ models benefit from protection against water and dust (IP68), in addition to Gorilla Glass Victus 2 screen protection; the Redmi Note 14 Pro and 14 5G are still entitled to IP54, which protects them against splashes, and the 14 4G to IP54.

Like every year, it is the Pro+ 5G model that Xiaomi has given the most care. The smartphone reveals a curvy design, with a faux leather or glass finish depending on the color, and an imposing photo block centered on the back. This has a 200-megapixel main sensor with a wide-angle, an 8-megapixel sensor flanked by an ultra-wide-angle and a final 2-megapixel module dedicated to macro. Since artificial intelligence is now essential, the smartphone puts it at the heart of its photo experience: it is possible to erase elements of images or enlarge scenes using it, after capture. It is also used for other uses: Ai Interpreter (translation), AI Notes (synthesis, translation and formatting of notes), AI Subtitle (automatic subtitling), AI Recorder (instant transcription of audio recordings ), or AI Film (automatic creation of vlogs) and even Circle to search.

These functions are enabled by the integration of a mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chip, with 8 to 12 GB of RAM and 256 or 512 GB of storage. On the battery side, Xiaomi has provided a capacity of 5110 mAh and fast charging at 120 W. All this is hidden behind a 6.67-inch Amoled screen (up to 3000 cd/m²), in a 210 gram case.

The Redmi Note 14 Pro and Pro 5G are more or less identical, since they have the same screen and the same back photo unit. The Pro 5G model is equipped with MediaTek's Dimensity 7300-Ultra chip (with 5G modem, therefore), and retains the battery of the Pro+ model, accompanied however by charging limited to 45 W. This is also the power retained by the Redmi Note 14 Pro, similar to the Pro 5G, except for its Helio G100-Ultra chip and its battery capacity, increased to 5500 Mah. The two Pro models come with some AI functions (photo expansion, magic eraser), but leave most of the intelligent options to the Redmi Note 14 Pro+.

The end of 4G has not yet come. The Redmi Note 14s are therefore offered in two versions, both equipped with MediaTek chips. We note that both terminals gain an under-screen fingerprint reader, where the Redmi Note 13 was secured by a sensor located in their power button; they are both equipped with Bluetooth 5.3 and can accommodate a microSD card.

Featuring a flat design, they are entitled to a 6.67-inch Amoled screen (2400 x 1080 pixels) whose brightness peaks at 2100 cd/m² for the 5G model, and 1800 cd/m² for its 4G counterpart. They feature a 108-megapixel main photo sensor, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle module and a final 2-megapixel module (macro). Among the differences, we note the use of the Dimensity 7025-Ultra chip in the Redmi Note 14 5G, and a MediaTek Helio G99-Ultra in its 4G counterpart; the battery of the first has a capacity of 5110 mAh (45 W) and that of the second, of 5500 mAh (33 W). It therefore promises to be a particularly durable smartphone.

Price and availability

The entire Redmi Note 14 range will be available from January 15.
