BYD competes with the Tesla Model S Plaid with this new electric car

The new BYD Han L EV is a high-end electric sedan that promises to be a serious competitor to the Tesla Model S Plaid. The Chinese manufacturer is preparing four versions with 100% electric and plug-in hybrids, a sector on which the firm is banking in Europe.

A sedan competing with the Model S Plaid

The technical sheet revealed by the Chinese government is impressive. The single-motor version develops a power of 580 kW or 789 horsepower. The dual engine version adds a 230 kW front unit or 313 horsepower. This configuration would allow the BYD Han L EV to reach a speed of 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds if the badge is to be believed “2.7S” spotted by Cnevpost on the rear of the vehicle.

It is precisely this performance that would place the BYD Han L EV as a competitor to the Tesla Model S Plaid with its 2.1 seconds. Except that the Chinese manufacturer would place itself above the price level since the American company's model is priced at $110,000 in China.

The BYD Han L EV also rivals the Tesla Model S Plaid in terms of dimensions. The electric sedan measures 5,050 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width and 1,505 mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,970 mm. Generous measurements for a possible spacious interior, an element that is very important to consumers of premium vehicles.

The electric sedan is equipped with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery technology developed by FinDreams, a BYD subsidiary. This is a strategic choice which favors the reliability and durability of accumulators for better autonomy and longevity.

Ultimately, the BYD Han L EV is part of a broader strategy by the Chinese manufacturer in the electric sedan market. The firm is already banking on the Han in standard version with acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds. The company seeks to focus on the entry level but also on the premium. On the other hand, nothing indicates that the new model will be released in France.
