Oled screens finally affordable thanks to Inkjet Printed Oled?
This 21.6-inch 4K panel will be introduced in select products in 2025.
We've been talking about Printed Oled panels for years, but the technology is finally mature enough to be deployed commercially and that's great news for consumers. The Inkjet Printed Oled is a workhorse now led by TCL CSOT since the company bought the patents of JOLED (Japan Oled) a few years ago.
Oled finally cheaper
The promise? Oled panels cheaper to produce thanks to a different manufacturing process from Oled panels from LG Display. The latter use an evaporation technique through an FMM (Fine Metal Mask) grid which leads to a loss of materials during manufacturing, and a lot of waste with a yield which is far from optimal.
With Inkjet Printed Oled panels, organic LEDs are directly printed using inkjet (hence the name of the technology) on the appropriate surface. No materials are lost during the process and the yield is better. In addition, this technique makes it possible to produce small slabs, but also large ones without increasing the risk of failure. The production costs of these Oled panels should therefore allow savings of 20 to 30%, which is clearly not negligible.
A 27-inch 4K 120Hz monitor was also shown.
The first screens available from 2025
At CES in Las Vegas, TCL CSOT announced the integration of its Inkjet Printed Oled panels into products that will be released in 2025. For the moment, we do not know which manufacturer purchased these panels and we are unfortunately limited to an office panel 21.6-inch 4K display, but we also saw prototypes of a 27-inch 4K 120Hz and 14-inch laptop display that could be released as soon as the end of the year or early 2026.
Laptops will obviously be able to benefit from this.
A priori, consumers will therefore be entitled to cheaper Oled products which will benefit from all the advantages of this technology in terms of contrast, color reproduction and responsiveness. Good news and we can't wait to be able to test these tiles in our labs to see what they are like in practice! On the other hand, we will have to wait a certain time before seeing 55 and 65 televisions that take advantage of this…
