Xgimi Ascend: the all-in-one ALR screen that hides in a luxury piece of furniture
It's an interesting two-in-one formula that the video projector manufacturer Xgimi presented during the CES in Las Vegas (United States): a motorized screen ALR directly integrated into a piece of furniture equipped with an integrated sound system. ALR technology allows the screen to absorb ambient lights coming from the ceiling and sides and reflect those from the video projector coming from below (here the recent Aura 2) towards the user with maximum brightness.
Design, image and sound
This concept called Ascend is complemented by two 60 W Harman Kardon soundbars and therefore promises to be more than just a screen. It can no longer be deployed to a third of its height to diffuse a soft light with fireplace-style flames. Perfect for creating an atmosphere in winter if you're a fan of kitsch fake fireplaces, but the interest stops there, let's face it. The rest of the time, users will be able to fully unfold its 100 inches in order to enjoy their favorite films, without needing to be completely immersed in the dark thanks to ALR technology.
A potentially interesting product which remains a concept for the moment and which could cost around €3,000 if it were to be released. Motorized ALR screens are indeed quite expensive, and here we must add the design of the furniture and the integrated speakers. If the design seems successful to us, an all-in-one solution can prove to be both practical, but also problematic if we want to upgrade the audio system for example. We hope that this will also be effective in providing good rendering and a fairly wide soundstage. See you later in the year to find out more!
