After the earthquake on the tech world caused by the arrival of Chinese artificial intelligence Deepseek R1, would the Empire in the community organize new aftershocks? This is at least what the new model of IA Kimi K1.5 can suggest from Moshot. Promising performance superior to those of R1 and GPT-4O models, Kimi seems to have passed under radars.

Performances superior to those of Deepseek R1

Accessible through a web interface, Kimi Ai is confined to the Chinese language for the moment. However, when asked, the model seems to be polyglot; A point to qualify by his response to the request “Do you speak French?” “: The chatbot indicates to speak French, but be more comfortable in Chinese and English. With multimodal capacities, it supports the remoteness of images and documents. In line with the latest AI, Kimi K1.5 is connected to the Internet, which gives it the possibility of looking for information in real time, on more than 100 websites selected by the company causing the model.

As this publication shows on X, it appears that Kimi's AI surpasses its competitors on performance benchmarks. The use of this model is entirely free, but above all, is free from quota limitations.

At this point, here is what Kimi is capable of in terms of reasoning:

  • Convert an image to computer code: for example, transform a sketch of a website into a structured code (which is reminiscent of the functionality put forward by Mistral Ai on Pixtral A few months ago);
  • Identify the geographic location of a photo;
  • To distinguish two objects on two images that are alike, which can be described as “trompe-l'oeil” for a human.

Navigator extension, applications and personal assistants

As Openai already do with the Customs GPT and Gemini with the Gems, Kimi takes up a functionality of preprogrammed assistants. Limited in number for the moment, they seem to be moving towards productivity and writing assistance. To name just a few, there is a generator of PowerPoint presentations (PPT), a tool for carrying out academic research or a reformulation module to write in a professional manner.

Kimi is available as a web interface, but also in mobile application, in software to install on the desktop and in Internet browser extension.
