In November 2024, Google had made a new function available to its beta testers under Chrome Canary: protection reinforced by artificial intelligence. Good news, the user Leopeva64 shared on February 15 on Twitter/X that everyone could now take advantage of it.

Already available for several years, the “Reinforced protection” is the highest level of security of Google Chrome. By integrating artificial intelligence, the Mountain View firm announces a “Protection optimized by AI in real time against extensions, sites and dangerous downloads, based on your navigation data sent to Google”.

Users are thus entitled to a Large language model (LLM) continuously analyzing the sites consulted, in order to alert them in the event of access to risky pages. Google Chrome's safety settings mention in passing that “In -depth analyzes for suspicious downloads” are now done.

To take advantage of this new safety layer boosted by artificial intelligence, simply access the Google Chrome settings, then in the section “Confidentiality and security” and the tab “Security”. Therefore, the option “Reinforced protection” can be activated in place of the traditional “Standard protection”.

However, this advanced protection has a cost: that of your personal data. We can indeed read in “Elements to take into account” shared by Google that the URLs of the sites consulted are sent to Google, just like a “Small sample of the content of the pages, downloads, the activity of extensions and system information to secure navigation”.
