Xiaomi: Attention, YouTube is deleted from these 19 smartphones
Bad news for owners of certain Xiaomi smartphones. YouTube has just announced a change that will make its application unusable on 19 models of the Chinese brand. In question: an evolution of the technical requirements of the application which definitively excludes these devices. And there is no official solution to get around this blockage.
Why you will no longer work on 19 Xiaomi smartphones
The reason is simple: YouTube will no longer be compatible with Android 7.0 Nougatand anterior versions of the operating system. Google relies on advanced features, in particular linked to artificial intelligence, which require a more recent bone. Result: smartphones running under nougat will no longer be able to install or use the application.
Only problem, the calendar of this implementation remains vague. Google did not specify whether access will be gradually limited or blocked overnight. Only one certainty: it will happen soon.
What models are concerned?
Here is the list of Xiaomi smartphones that will lose access to YouTube:
- Xiaomi Mi 5, Mi 5s, Mi 5s Plus, Mi 6, Mi Max, Mi Max 2
- Redmi 4, 4 premium, 4x, note 4, note 4x, note 5a, note 5a prime, y1, y1 lite
- Redmi 5, 5a
These devices, although ancient, still remain functional for many. Some may be used as secondary phones or multimedia tablets, but for YouTube, it's now over.
A solution to get around the problem
If you have one of these models and want to continue watching YouTube, there is a solution: go through a web browser. Access youtube via Chrome or Firefox allows you to circumvent the restriction. The experience will not be as fluid as on the application, of course, but it is a valid option.
Could Xiaomi offer an update for these devices? Technically yes, but in reality it seems unlikely: these models have not been supported by the brand for several years.
