This should not surprise many people: since this Thursday, January 20, 2025, the Google Store no longer allows you to buy the chromecast with Google TV. The two versions are concerned, namely HD (40 €, launched in 2022) and 4K (€ 70, launched in 2020).

The firm's objective is clear: to push towards its Google Streamer Launched in 2024 for 120 €. Last August, the company already indicated that the Chromecast would remain on sale until stocks last. You have to believe that this moment has happened.

A forced retirement of chromecast

If you need a solution to stream content on a screen, there are fortunately solutions. Beyond cracking for the last box as effective as it is more expensive from Google, there is still a little time to try to find a chromecast with Google TV at a third-party dealer. Likewise, several competitors offer equivalent solutions, such as Nvidia, Amazon or Xiaomi.

Google Streamer, a product that blows hot and cold

To justify the high price of Son Google Streamer, Google said that most modern televisions today offered basic streaming features. Users therefore now sought multimedia boxes offering more features.

However, as noted in many tests (including ours), if Google's solution is convincing, it remains less complete than other solutions, such as the aging, however Nvidia Shield. In addition, Google Streamer is still running Android 14, like Chromecast, which will probably never see Android 15.
