Apple is preparing to give a facelift to its ATLTAG. According to informant Kosutami – taken up by Macrumors -, a new version of the tracker would be launched in May or June, a calendar that sticks with the predictions of Bloomberg. Three major improvements are expected, we take stock.

An Airtag that sees (much) further

Airtag 2 should integrate a new Ultra Wideband – the same as that of Apple smartphones since The iPhone 14 and Apple Watch. Result: a range three times larger, up to 60 meters. No more long minutes to go around in circles to find a forgotten bag or a recalcitrant keychain. This technology also makes it easier to locate relatives in a crowd, a function already present on the iPhone 15 And iPhone 16.

A less intrusive tracker

Apple has suffered criticism of the diverted use of Airtags, sometimes used to follow people without their knowledge. With this new version, the brand strengthens security: the speaker will be more difficult to remove or deactivate. What complicate the task of those who would like to return the airstag silent for malicious purposes.

A stronger link with Apple Vision Pro

The future Airtag should also better integrate into Apple Vision Pro, the brand's mixed reality headset. Few details have leaked, but we can imagine an augmented reality location, with visual indications superimposed on the real world. An evolution that would give even more interest to the Apple ecosystem?

The Airtag has not changed since its launch in 2021. Apple therefore seems determined to give it a second breath, but it remains to be seen if these improvements will be accompanied by a price change, set today at 39 € per unit and € 129 per pack of four. Response in a few months.
