A 24 mm f/1.8 bright and affordable for Sony hybrids: 7 -artists at less than 300 €
Almost 1 year after the launch of AF 85mm F1.8the manufacturers of Chinese third-compatible (or compatible) optics (or compatible) is launching a new 24mm grande-angle offering an F1.8 opening. It is therefore the third objective of this series since the manufacturer also offers a 50mm F1.8.
The 24mm F1.8 AF 7arters is therefore a 24mm fixed focal length which is particularly intended for the practice of the landscape or astrophotography. This type of wide focal length can also in some cases prove to be interesting for reporting, architectural photo and even portrait. This optics are offered in Sony E mount and can cover the 24×36 mm sensor format and therefore operate with the Sony Full Frame hybrids as for example A7 IV Or A7R V. It is still possible to use it with a Sony hybrid equipped with an APS-C sensor (such as the A6700) And in this case it is equivalent to a 127.5 mm (conversion coefficient of 1.5x).

This objective is very bright and has a maximum opening of F1.8 associated with a circular diaphragm with 11 strips. It therefore makes it possible to make particularly marked bokeh (blurred) effects. The opening of the opening can be done automatically from the housing or manually thanks to a diaphragm adjustment ring graduated at 1/3 of it and continues (a plus for example in video). It has an optical formula composed of 14 lenses divided into 11 groups with 3 ED glasses with low dispersions, 2 hait glasses index of refraction and 2 aspherical lenses. The manufacturer publishes MTF curves which suggest very good optical performance.

Like its predecessors, this objective is therefore equipped with an autofocus system for automatic development. It is ensured by a STM not precise and silent STM motorization which can therefore be used in video. The manufacturer announces compatibility with the Eye AF mode of Sony Hybrids and the objective is equipped (based on its mount) with a USB-C socket to make firmware updates. The lens itself is quite compact and light with about 9 cm long and a weight of 424 grams. It is made of metal and delivered with a sun visor. We find a switch button to switch to manual focus and a Personable FN touch.
Availability and price
The new 7artisan AF 24mm F1.8 objective is announced at a price of $ 330 or Envy 290 euros. Of course, this price is extremely competitive, as often with 7arters. It can be compared to equivalent objectives at Sony or Sigma such as the Sigma 24mm F2 DG | Contemporary offered at a price of 620 euros, the Sigma 24mm F3.5 DG | Contemporary offered at a price of 540 euros or even the Sony FE 24 mm F2.8 g offered at nearly 700 euros.
