A protection shield against digital works has just been created: Adobe Content Authenticity. Coming from the work of a consortium initially brought together to guarantee the veracity of press images (the content authenticity initiative), this digital mechanism has two large virtues: it is simple to implement and it is free.

Still in full swing on the authentication front, the initiative takes a crucial step: it now protects the property from your images via a double digital signature system.

An online platform

Accessible from the address Contenututhenticity.adobe.comthe service requires the creation of an account at Adobe – free operation. Then, the interface not only signs your images, but also adding your social media accounts which will serve as signature and protection on these platforms.

To go even further, users can use the LinkedIn digital signature verified, an increasingly popular signature since it requires an original identity document. But which is always imperfect, since the LinkedIn identity verification mechanism does not take care of the pseudos, artists’ names, usual names (if you use your second first name or your second name for example).

Once your work is signed, the compatible platforms can display a small black and white CR logo which indicates that this is an original work signed. Depending on the nature of the integration, all or part of the information can also be displayed-the standard is open-source, it all depends on the choice of companies and platforms.

Protected works against screenshots

Before even talking about the flight of AI, Adobe protection allows you to protect yourself from the flight made by humans. Stars that chatted the photos on Instagram to unscrupulous individuals who shamelessly appropriate the work of others, the cases are legion. The problem being that many of these flights are made not by accessing the full original file, but through screenshots. Which are therefore devoid of metadata.

Also, Adobe’s digital protection reel brings a second protection: a protective (watermark) watermark within pixels. “”Integrated into the image in a perfectly invisible way for humans, these pixels constitute a verifiable digital signature“, Assures Andy Parson, responsible for the Content Authenticity Initiative at Adobe.

An opt-out tag to block AI

Some AI work on closed volumes of data, others literally “swallow” everything they have seen on the web. The importance of the digital signature brought by Adobe Content Authenticity is to affix digital marking in metadata signifying your disagreement of the use of your work to cause AI-we are talking about opt-out, in jargon.

In the event that artists now sign their works by mentioning their refusal to participate in the training of AI, they will have all the cards in hand to assert their rights when the regulations are set up. Regulations which should oblige the giants of the AI to respect (finally) the copyright.

Tequin, Adobe did not fail to specify that her Firefly models were specifically trained on authorized content-forgetting a little to mention that at the start, all the digital works published on his cloud were by default in opt-in. A “forgetfulness” corrected since.

Protection to be implemented now

The arrival of this free service seems to be excellent news. But what happens for example if someone stings your images or your photos and starts to sign them now with their digital identity? “”At each introduction of new intellectual property protection mechanisms, there is indeed a sensitive period when some people can try to record the work of others“Recalls Andy Parsons.

A manager who therefore invites “To be used now“The service to protect your photos and creations. An approach which, with regard to the current magnitude of intellectual property flights and free mechanism, seems to have only advantages.
