Health is going digital! After the Carte Vitale now available on the phoneit’s the turn of drug leaflets to find themselves digitized. 500 are affected by this exceptional measure and still in the trial phase, including paracetamol. A wider choice could be offered if this test is passed.

The end of paper notices?

In Europe, more than 500 medicationsincluding 420 used in hospitals, will test a QR code allowing access to their digital instructions for two years. This approach will be implemented at European level and for economic and ecological reasons.

This measure concerns vaccines, anti-cholesterol or anti-cancer drugs as well as non-prescription drugs, such as paracetamol.

In hospitals, certain medication instructions are disappearing to be replaced by QR codes.

However, the paper notice will indeed still be present in certain cases.

Concretely, if you go to pharmacy and one of your medications is affected, you will find it in its usual box with its instructions. The only new feature will be on one side of the packaging where you can find a QR code to scan.

In the hospitalson the other hand, the paper instructions will be removed to encourage digital reading.

An ecological and economic experiment

The National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products specifies that the experimentation of dematerialized notices will be monitored and evaluated by patients, healthcare professionals and manufacturers.

The main objective is to familiarize the public with these e-leaflets and promote their use for more practical and modern access to information on medicines.

As noted, this measurement is ecologicalbecause it considerably reduces the printing of paper notices, thus limiting waste of paper and ink. It also allows you to quickly update information without reprinting each notice.

Finally, it reduces production and distribution costs for manufacturers and pharmacies.

However, in France and for the most connected among you, there will be no real novelty, because most of the instructions are already available online with a simple search on the name of the drug, in particular on the public drug database (BDPM).
