Airbags Takata: 800,000 additional vehicles immobilized in emergency by the government

We are talking about fatal risks of explosions, very dangerous by strong heat and humidity. The ministry orders the general recall of all vehicles equipped with Takata airbags, without distinction of model, brand or age.

The decision also extends the total immobilization of the vehicles concerned (“Stop Drive”) in overseas departments and territories, in Corsica and for models made before 2012 in mainland France.
The extension brings the general recall to 2.5 million vehicles, 600,000 more than before this decision. Among these vehicles, 1.7 million are subject to “Stop Drive” Until the airbag replacement, compared to 900,000 prohibitions previously. The measure therefore immobilizes 800,000 additional vehicles at once.
More than thirty automotive brands are affected by these reminders. The full list is on the official website of the Ministry of Transport to quickly check if your vehicle is concerned.
This government decision follows the tragic death of a driver 37 years old in Reims, Wednesday June 11. The explosion of the Takata airbag of his Citroën C3 injured her fatally. Philippe Tabarot then ordered the ban on riding for all Citroën C3 and DS3 equipped with Takata airbags.
The measure of June 24 goes further than this first reaction. “The fatal accident of June 11 has shown that risk analyzes made by certain manufacturers – and which fall under their responsibilities – must be reassessed”said the government press release.
