“America Party”: after cars, AI and rockets, Elon Musk wants to launch his own political party
Elon Musk brandished the threat of creating his own party, the America Party, to “give a voice to the people” in the face of the bipartisan system which he deems obsolete. © Shutterstock
It is a tweet, as often at Elon Musk. But this time, they were neither humanoid robots nor a Martian conquest. The billionaire agitated the threat of founding a “America Party”, a political party in his name, considering himself betrayed by the Republicans. It is not the first time that he has come out of his tech pattern cap to play the electrons free political. But there, the tone changes.

Elon Musk wants a “America Party”: Tech enters the full force in politics
He had promised to withdraw from the political game. Result ? Elon Musk returns there like a soil-to-ground missile. On Monday, when the Senate debated Donald Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” – an explosive budget bill – the boss of Tesla, X and Spacex dropped what is probably his biggest political threat since 2024:
If this insane bill is adopted, the America Party will be formed the next day.
The tone is set. Elon Musk does not digest this text which provides a dizzying increase in the American debt ceiling (up to $ 5,000 billion according to him). He castigates Republicans whom he accuses of betraying their promises of rigor:
Each member of the congress who campaigned to reduce expenses, then vote for the greatest debt increase in history, should be ashamed … and will lose his primary, even if it is the last thing I do on this land.
Trump’s response was not long in coming. On Truth Social, he turned on Musk with a spike that mixes sarcasm, threats and nationalism:
Elon has received more subsidies than any human being in history. Without them, it should probably close shop and return to South Africa. Maybe we should ask Doge to go and look more closely? Money to save, a lot of money!
Reminder: in 2024, Musk had nevertheless supported Trump up to $ 275 million via his America PAC, with direct funding for several candidates. He had even joined an advisory committee at the White House. But last May, He said he wanted to “reduce his political commitments”. We know the rest.
A political offensive against the background of techno-power
So, tactical bluff or beginnings of a real movement? Man already controls one of the biggest opinion platforms, where hate speech and disinformation reigna Constellation of satellitesa fleet of connected vehicles, and Now a house. That he wants to connect all this to a political ambition is neither eccentric nor trivial, without mentioning his 220 million followers.
In other words, he does not need a party to exist in public debate. But a party would allow him to structure his influence and materialize a vision. Would democracy survive it? This is another question.
For the French, it is not just a soap opera from across the Atlantic. It is a reflection of a world where the figures of tech now weigh more than certain heads of state. Musk is not playing politicians – he redefines what politics means in the digital age. The day when the votes will be made on X, we may understand that we have not seen the blow coming.
