Following our review of season 2 ofAndor and our Interview with the creator of the series,, Digital was able to speak with the three actors who embody these minions of the Empire, Kyler Soller, Denise Gough and Ben Mendelsohn, in order to return to their path to Ghorman.

We would like to think that Dedra suddenly has a crisis of conscience, but I don’t think that is the case.

Soller Not me!
Mendelsohn, turning to Soller and Gough I think there is one or two things that have gone wrong.
Gouth He thinks it is my fault. He will spend his time saying that it is Dedra’s fault! But I think our characters face a powerful enemy with rebellion.
The rebellion turns out to be stronger.
Mendelsohn It is true, but I think that the fact that these two are presented as a united front makes things spoil when Syril’s conscience flickers.
Gouth But it is the power of rebellion. The reason why Syril’s consciousness is vacillating is that he has spent time with the people who are oppressed. So, as an individual awakens something in him. Dedra never spends time with these people, so she doesn’t understand this vacant. But as a human being, I can understand the idea that I no longer want to eliminate a whole people if we have spent time with them. In the end, it is therefore the rebellion that turns out to be stronger than the ensuing chaos.

Mendelsohn I would also add that it is the fault of the machinations, the way we conducted this operation. Using Syril by exploiting his best efforts, his ambition, that of his mother, his relationship with Dedra, and using him as a pawn, as he was … Normally, it would not be a problem. But given the circumstances, and Syril being who he is, and the world being what he is … it is the fog of war, if you want.
This is the fault of the machinations, the way we conducted this operation.
Soller Exactly. And since we decided to say that it was Syril’s fault – what I agree with – it is also necessary to add the fact that he feels betrayed in his relationship with Dedra. He is someone who trusted. And to realize that he was used as a pawn in all aspects of his life by his mother, by Dedra, by the Empire, it is so heartbreaking, especially since he sees himself in the midst of this people who opened his heart and shared his experience. So, yes, Syril was not the right person to use.

Mendelsohn Oh, Syril should never have accepted the araigny doll that the Ghorman offered him. And for Dedra, it was when it was given this job at the meeting of the first episode.
Gouth Dedra really respects the chain of command, but she does not want this work.
Dedra is not impressed by Krennic.
Mendelsohn She does not want it, she sees it as a demotion.
Gouth Yes, and it is a distraction in relation to what she wants. This is why it is very interesting when it is in this meeting at the start of the season. All people present would kill so that director Krennic gave them such a mission, but Dedra is not impressed by this man. She just has no choice. She must do this work, and she does it because she is constrained there and she is aware of it. But it is not as invested in there as in its search for axis. It is even in its way and it is not as involved, even if it fulfills its mission as best it can, because it is endowed in this area. She ends up planting herself because that’s not what she wants to do.

Soller Honestly, I don’t know at all. I don’t have the feeling that he would have changed camps. I hope he would have just escaped in a distant mountain to get his own idea. This is difficult to say, because his devotion to the Empire had a huge place in his life. He grew up in Coruscant, it was in him since childhood. It is therefore a difficult pill to swallow when all this myth collapses.
Mendelsohn In any case, it would have been a great catch for the rebels. If they had been able to recruit him, it would have been a great asset.
I don’t feel like Syril would have changed camps.
Soller Yes, I think he was completely broken and disappointed with the way he was betrayed. Suddenly, go to the other side to cause more damage, more war … he might end up being quite disillusioned.
Gouth It’s like leaving a sect and finding yourself in another sect. You realize that everything you have devoted to your life is not true. So, you wouldn’t want to go to another version of this sect, right?
