A dumpling – or a calculated leak? In any case, Google has published an article a little too early which reveals the foundations of Material 3 expressive. This new design language (which we can find here With the Wayback Machine), expected this year in Android 15 and the main homemade applications, intends to break the current visual monotony. Less wise, more readable, more expressive.
Google accidentally revealed Material 3 expressive, the next Android interface
Of the Android 15Google plans to gradually introduce Matural 3 expressive into its interfaces. Some bricks are already visible in Google Chat or the Clock, others will arrive more widely in Gmail, Google Wallet or photos. Android developers will be able to adopt these new bases as soon as the tools are updated in Jetpack Composed and Android Studio.

But it’s not just a brushstroke. Google took three years to lay the foundations for this language: 46 studies, 18,000 participants, and only one in -line question – how to do better than this design that has become too generic, too neutral?
The result is a more structured approach, where each element has its place, its shape, its color, and sometimes even a movement. The objective is not only aesthetic: it is a question of making the actions more obvious. The “send” button from an email, placed at the bottom of the screen with a well -chosen secondary tone, is seen four times faster than before. This kind of detail changes everything in a mobile interface.

Beyond use, Google is also interested in perception. The tests show that expressive designs are deemed more modern, more original, more “cool”said the firm. And this, in young people as in older people. A design that has character, it marks spirits.

For the moment, these are just models. But they give a very concrete overview of what Google is preparing: a new way of approaching design, more expressive, but no less functional.
