Instagram emptied your Android battery: Google confirms (and correct)

The suspicion has been hovering for some time, carried by massive testimonies on Reddit And various specialized forums: Instagram devoured the autonomy of Android phones. For example, a user of a Galaxy A53 reported that the application had consumed 12.4 % battery for only 54 minutes of active use, when WhatsApp, in equivalent use, capped at 2.4 %.

Faced with growing discontent, some have attempted to downsize Instagram to older versions or to switch to Instagram Lite, with an immediate effect on autonomy. This confirmed empirically that there was a wolf in the main version.

Google, for its part, took the subject seriously and published a technical note titled soberly “Battery Drain on Android Devices”. It is specified there that the faulty version of Instagram has now been replaced by a fix. The company recommends installing the 382.0.0.49.84 version, being deployed via the Play Store.

Since this update, returns are unanimous: autonomy has returned to normal levels, without overheating or disproportionate use in the background.
