The arrival of summer is accompanied by the good weather, the holidays, but also the heat waves, and the mosquitoes. And if our common mosquitoes bite at night were not enough, the tiger mosquito colonized 81 from the 96 metropolitan departments. In addition to sting during the day, he is a vector of diseases like dengue, zika or chikungunya.

Records, electric rackets or other solutions are not always very effective in protecting themselves from these insects. A Chinese company has found a new solution in the form of a small gadget called Photon Matrix. Like anti-line systems, it uses a laser to neutralize mosquitoes. The device can be powered from an external battery, it is IP68 certified (water and dust resistant), and can therefore be used outside and inside.

The Lidar and a laser to eliminate mosquitoes into a fraction of a second

According to the manufacturer, the device incorporates a Lidar to detect mosquitoes. He can determine the angle, the distance and their size in just three milliseconds, then shoots them with a small laser. For security reasons, it also incorporates a radar to identify larger objects than a mosquito in the field of action, including humans and animals, and deactivates the shooting. It is able to neutralize mosquitoes which measure between 2 and 20 mm and which fly within one meter per second.

The device nevertheless has some limits. The scan is limited to a horizontal line. The mosquito must therefore go up to the right height to be detected. The manufacturer also offers a rotating base for better coverage. The Matrix photon is available in two versions. A basic version with a range of three meters, and a more powerful pro version, which can reach mosquitoes at six meters.

The anti-mosquito soon available, but it will not be for this summer

However, do not expect to order it for this summer. The Matrix photon is only available via a crowdfunding campaign On Indiegogoand does not provide deliveries before October. It is currently offered at a reduced price of 424 euros for the basic version, and 536 euros for the pro version, with a later launch price of 594 euros or 765 euros respectively.

As with all crowdfunding sites, there is always a risk to support a project before its marketing. In addition, it is impossible to know at present if it will be really effective, especially since it is still in development. But being able to kill mosquitoes automatically with a laser, who wouldn’t dream of it?
