The large household continues at Apple, with new devices listed as “Old” Or “obsolete”. After the iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 8it is the turn of the iPhone XS, iPad 5 and Mac Mini 2018 to join the list. Here is everything that implies for users of these devices!

From old to obsolete, what happens to the iPhone XS, the iPad 5 and the Mac Mini 2018?

Apple does not offer indefinite material support on its devices, whether in Apple Store or approved repair centers. It therefore classifies its products by seniority so that users are informed of their eligibility for after-sales service (after-sales service).

A official page thus reveals a list distinguishing two types of devices:

  • “Old”those whose marketing has been stopped by Apple for at least 5 years
“Obsoles”those withdrawn from the sale for at least 7 years

These statutes have the result of limiting official repairs. By now being classified as old, the iPhone XS can be repaired only within the limits of stocks of spare parts available in the Apple Store and approved centers. As for the passage of the iPad 5 as an obsolete model, this underlines that this material support will no longer be available.

For the Mac Mini 2018, 9TO5MAC noted that Apple had added a note recommending that users of “Get closer to a service center approved by Apple to find out the service state of this product”. Already listed as ancient a few months earlier, which seems to bring him closer to the obsolete status in the near future.
