Unfortunately, the efforts made by the apple brand are limited and far from meeting all the standard needs of a real right to repair.

Only a handful of ipad concerned

On the good news side, Apple announces available screens, battery, photo modules and load port for its tablets. The first two elements listed here being those who most often break downit is rather reassuring to see them listed. Repair manuals are also made available To guide the DIY enthusiasts in the smallest details of their repairs.

But where the rub is, it is on the availability of spare parts. Indeed, only a handful of iPad is affected by this ad. More specifically, only iPad Air M2 And subsequent,, iPad Pro M4,, iPad Mini A17 Pro And iPad A16 will be listed on the Apple platform. This more or less matches the handful of tablets that Apple already sells on his site.

By limiting the availability of parts to tablets released for just over a year, Apple drastically reduces the usefulness of such a program. The most recent devices are indeed the least likely to break down while the oldest models may well need a new battery or a new screen in order to regain hair from the beast.

Efforts remain to be made

The platform for providing parts is in addition to that rather austere and does not really display its parentage with Apple. For the moment, most components are also absent from the French store. On the US site, the part in itself costs as expensive as a repair in Apple Store, clearly not encouraging Internet users to opt for home repair. We can also regret that no reconditioned part is made available, but, given the freshness of the products concerned, this is not fundamentally surprising.

To put it abruptly, the parts are neither particularly accessible nor particularly cheap and the act of repair in itself is quite complex. At the bingo of the Préparation Measures, the Apple program checks only a few boxes. Other actors have for example allied with Ifixit to consider repair in a more holistic way.
