Between design, health and sport, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 seek to reinvent themselves

Samsung’s summer unpacked are traditionally dedicated to its folding smartphones – and this year, there are many! – But also regularly host connected watches. The cycle of renewal of its tocantes Galaxy now follows that of mobiles, since the South Korean unveils its Galaxy Watch 8, to succeed Watch 7 dating from the summer of 2024. It’s a bit short, young man, but why not: this is the occasion for a design overhaul that should not fail to divide.

A design inspired by the Ultra Watch

What everyone can appreciate are the efforts made by Samsung to lighten their standard watch. Because unlike the Ultra Watch and even Watch 8 Classic, the Galaxy Watch 8 remains particularly light: it weighs 30 g in 40 mm and 34 g in 44 mm version. It is in reality no less than the Galaxy Watch 7 (28.8 g in 40 mm), even though the watch progresses on software and hardware plans.

We first remember that the Watch 8 is only thick 8.6 mm, against 9.7 mm for its elder. It is therefore less “massive” on the wrist. It still includes two side buttons, on an aluminum case certainly housing a round screen, but adopting an almost rectangular format and recalling that of the ultra galaxy Watch. Inside is hidden an AMOLED AMOLED screen, with its diagonal of 1.34 “to the definition of 438 x 438 pixels, and to the brightness increased to 3000 cd/m². It retains a sapphire glass protection, which completes a certified millet-STD-810h IP68 and waterproof atm. Mah on the Watch 7 to 325 mAh on his heiress.

The Watch 8 is also available in 44 mm version, this time housing a 1.47 -inch slab (480 x 480 pixels) and a 435 mAh battery. As for the Watch 8 Classic, it displays the same in rectangular format and wears rotating telescope (round, therefore) surrounding a screen of 1.34 “similar to that of the Watch 8 40 mm, despite its more substantial measurements (46.7 x 46 x 10.6 mm). There is also a crown dedicated to navigation, and the classic adopts the stainless steel rather than Watch aluminum 8. Result: a higher weight (63.5 g), but partially justified by a 445 mAh battery.

Sleep “coaching” …

Renewing its design, the Galaxy Watch 8 series hopes to seduce lovers of lightness and differentiating styles. But beyond appearances, and even if Samsung does not announce increases in autonomy, it is through the features that the new watches intend to impose itself. They mainly target two subjects, and not least: sleep and running.

Samsung products users are already experiencing the energy score, this level of form of shape level based on the various biometric statements of its watches. To better help Watch 8 carriers to sleep, the watches offer a sleep “coaching” (recommending in particular an appropriate bedtime), but also an analysis of the sleeping environment based on the various connected objects of the house. We also and above all retain a detection of sleep apnea, a major health concern today. The function, validated by the European authorities, will therefore be proposed immediately.

… at the “coaching” race

In the city as in the countryside, the running arouses a real enthusiasm, pushing neo -sporting to dream – or even to turn into marathonists. Competiting specialists of the genre (Garmin, especially), Samsung offers wrist training plans. The idea is to start with the analysis of a first race to assess the level of the runner, then to offer him a training plan “of the first kilometers to the marathon”, by drawing from 160 possibilities. Samsung intends to clarify the display of measurements during the race, but also provide a detailed post-interactional analysis (length of the stride, symmetry, posture, etc.). The displayed goal: to seduce beginner or intermediate level runners; The most experienced, themselves, turning more logically to specialized watches.

The lifestyle passed through health

Watch 8 wish to play on all paintings. These models under Wear OS adopt the One UI 8 interface full of widgets in pill format and allowing access to the Now Bar (inaugurated on the Galaxy S25 smartphones) or the intelligent assistant Gemini on the wrist. AI is also used to facilitate the response to messages received, which is undoubtedly more practical than entering them on a very small touch keyboard.

But health remains at the heart of Samsung’s concerns. The ECG function remains on the menu and there is a function called “vascular load” intended to report the risks of cardiovascular accidents linked to the user’s lifestyle; Watches also alert in the event of an abnormal heart rate. Like the Watch 7, the Watch 8 can deliver an AGE metabolic health index (Advanced Glycation End), and they add an “antioxidant” index evaluating, by putting the thumb for a few seconds on the watches sensor, the presence of carotenoids: it is a question of measuring this provitamin greeted for its antioxidant effects.

Price and availability

The Galaxy Watch 8 are available now in Bluetooth or 4G versions. For Watch 8 40 mm, count 379 € (Bluetooth) or 429 € (4G), when the 44 mm model is billed 409 € in Bluetooth or 459 € in 4G. The price of the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic, only in 46 mm, reaches € 529 in Bluetooth and € 579 in 4G.
