While the X verification system has not made much sense since it has become paid with the arrival of Elon Musk, one of its main competitors today, Blueskyimproves his own. The decentralized microblogging service, which has already allowed users since 2023 to check their account by binding it to their domain name – which 270,000 users have done who now have a blue check next to their pseudo – now goes further.

Manual verification and confidence

First of all, Bluesky’s moderation teams will start this April 21 to manually affix a blue check in accounts deemed “authentic and remarkable”. In a second step, once the functionality is well in place, users will be possible to ask the teams the famous blue check directly to become checked via a form.

But Bluesky goes further to improve confidence and avoid identity usurpations, with another layer called “trust verifiers”. The platform will indeed give blue nods to the somewhat special form to certain accounts, such as that of the media The New York Times.

With this badge, an account can then give itself verification badges of the accounts of its choice, such as journalists in the present example. The moderation of Bluesky will still verify the authenticity of the account thus validated. Press a blue check in this way then displays the source of the verification.

Finally, let us note that it is possible to fully mask these verification checks within Bluesky. To do this, direction Settings> Moderation> Verification Settings and check “Hide Verification Badges”.
