To say that a product is on sale when it has never been it is an old marketing sleight of hand. HP would have abused this method to the point of responding to justice. Verdict: an agreement at several million euros, without recognition of fault, but not without consequences.

The game of barred labels has its period. HP would have greatly exceeded them, according to Collective action Blicked in the United States in 2021. The American company is accused of having presented computers, keyboards and mice as being on promotion on its official website, while these reductions would be fictitious. The whole thing took place over a period covering three years, between June 2021 and the end of October 2024.
In fact, products were highlighted with significant price reductions, often greater than 10 %. Problem: the “original price” mentioned would have rarely, if not, been practiced. For example, a computer displayed at € 899 instead of € 999 would have been sold at this reduced rate for several months without interruption. Clearly, the promotion was permanent – therefore false.
HP preferred to settle amicably rather than getting bogged down in a trial. The agreement provides for the payment of $ 4 million, or around 3.75 million euros, to cover compensation for the consumer concerned, legal costs and the management costs of the file. No admission of guilt has been formulated, but the sum speaks of itself.
Among the 276 products concerned include flagship references, such as HP spectrum x360,, Envy x360 15,, Pavilion Gaming 15,, Chromebook x360 14cor all all-in-one Envy 32 And Pavilion AIO 27 – All pointed out for being displayed with questionable discounts.
HP has not yet officially communicated on this decision and no official information confirms that this procedure includes French (or European) customers. But HP is the subject of other actions in France, in particular a complaint filed by the Halte Association in planned obsolescence (HOP) in November 2024. This complaint accused HP of planned obsolescence practices Linked to firmware updates making certain ink cartridges incompatible.
