Box-office: resounding flop for Snow White, Disney at the end of the tale?

The years follow each other, and with them the remakes in real absurd shots of the Disney animated films. After MUFASA: The Lion King And The little mermaidit was therefore the turn of Snow White To offer its “updated” version in American cinemas this weekend … and it was (not surprising?) Planted in large widths.
An announced disaster?
The remake of the classic of all Disney classics has only collected $ 43 million on American soil for its first operating weekend. A start is certainly better than the recent MUFASA: The Lion King (which had started with 35 million), but very far from that of The little mermaid version 2023 (95 million). And it is barely better internationally, with a cumulative world at $ 87.3 million.

At this rate, Snow White should thus end his career around 110 million in the United States, and close to the 260 million on the globe. With a budget estimated at $ 270 million (more than the trilogy of Rings), this start -up more than chick does not bode well to reimburse this massive invoice. But this flop was however to be expected.
Between a complicated production (Covid pandemic, strike in Hollywood, fire on the set …), controversies on the casting, and expensive rewritings and reshoots, this Snow White seemed poisoned from the start. And its modern rereading of the film (stamped “Woke” by some Internet users) was expected at the turn, which explains that Disney was in “Damage Control” since the start of the project.

This failure can also be explained by the seniority of the adapted work. Where The little mermaid And The Lion King could count on a generation of spectators who had grown with the original films of the 80s and 90s, the Snow White From 1937 is already more distant for the public. Its story appears dark and dated, just like remake Dumbo From Tim Burton, who had also struggled to convince at the box office.
Will this belly end the Disney live action remakes? Nothing is less certain. The studio already has several placed in its agenda, including that of Lilo & Stitch (May 23 at the cinema) and Moana (in July 2026). In addition, other rereading of Hercules,, Aristochats And Robin of woods are in the pipes.

In the rest of the box office, Mickey 17 De Bong Joon-Ho confirms his failure and painfully reached the $ 110 million mark recorded on the planet. It will not be enough to absorb its budget estimated at $ 120 million, and allow Warner to enter the nails.
Same bell sound on the side of Captain America: Brave New Worldwhich has finally reached the symbolic bar of the $ 400 million generated worldwide. A result certainly less catastrophic than The Marvelsbut far from what we can expect from a MCU film which, more than ever, is no longer a successful success in theaters.
