Byd forms a major partnership in Saudi Arabia

The partnership is part of a favorable context since Saudi Arabia has set ambitious objectives in terms of green mobility: going from the 1 % of electric vehicles to 30 % by the end of the decade.

The Saudi territory faces a huge deficit in infrastructure dedicated to electric vehicles. Only 101 charging stations are operational in 2024, a very insufficient figure for national ambitions. It is therefore an exceptional opportunity for companies in the sector such as Byd.

Byd anticipated this evolution with a local presence from 2023 with the inauguration of an exhibition space in Riyadh. Ali Al-Meshari, vice-president of Aramco, stresses that this partnership will explore advanced propulsion technologies and fuels with reduced carbon footprint to combine performance and respect for the environment.

Meanwhile, Tesla tries to fill its delay with a network of supercomposes and temporary shops in the Saudi capital but favors online sale. As a reminder, the Elon Musk firm crosses a delicate period with a 13 % drop in its global sales in the first quarter of 2025. The fault of, in particular, an aging catalog and the tarnished image of its CEO.

Conversely, Byd displays a strong dynamic with nearly a million electric and hybrid vehicles sold over the same period. The Chinese giant’s offer is more diverse and the prices accessible with technologies Like the load in 5 minutes.
