Three years of reprieve for connected thermostats in France
Selling the miracle solution to save energy: this is the objective of a European directive requiring the introduction of a programmable thermostat in homes, which will apply in the years to come in France. Speaking of a “strict transposition” of the text, Roland Lescure, Minister of the Economy, now evokes a delayed implementation in France.
On social networks, he explains in fact that “the connected and programmable thermostat will not be compulsory from 2027”given that the measurement “is being postponed to 2030”. We can read that the latter is part of an announcement made by the Prime Minister on November 20, during the congress of mayors.
The thermostat is used to better control heating expenses and therefore improve the purchasing power and bill prices of the French.
But why did you make this choice? Roland Lescure mentions the objective of “allow more flexibility for households and professionals to equip themselves”. A fairly light explanation when we know that the decree concerning this directive was enacted in June 2023, which already left owners 3 and a half years to install the device.
Added to this is a device “Help” of the state available since the end of 2023, thus limiting the financial impact of the switch to a connected thermostat in households. The Minister of the Economy also recalls the amount of aid depends “the cost of the material, the offer from the energy supplier and the number of radiators”.
As a reminder, this obligation postponed to 2030 only concerns housing equipped with an individual heating system.
