Known since 2009 for its rugged smartphones dedicated to professionals, Crosscall is gradually emancipating itself from purely industrial uses. After having equipped law enforcement and SNCF with its Core range, the Aix-based manufacturer has broadened its target with the Stellar family: devices capable of withstanding shocks, but with a look much closer to a traditional smartphone. And this Chamonix-Mont-Blanc edition confirms this ambition.

While the previous models – the Stellar-X5 launched at €900 and the M6 below €500 — had already stood out, this double update offers a new finish, a symbolically strong partnership, and an additional number of functions geared towardsoutdoor clever. We were able to take them in hand.

Dressed all in white

Forget the black plastic typical of construction site phones. The Stellar-X5s and M6 Chamonix-Mont-Blanc edition opt for a white back with softened lines, designed to resist stains and yellowing, and proudly bearing the stamp of the world capital of mountaineering. Their thick reinforced plastic chassis remains impressive – 249 g for the X5s, 242 g for the M6 - but that’s the price to pay for a phone that doesn’t need an additional protective shell. These devices are already armored.

The template and the display differ slightly:

  • Stellar-X5s Chamonix-Mont-Blanc edition: 172.4 × 80.1 × 11.9 mm, 6.4″ LCD screen with center punch
  • Stellar-M6 Chamonix-Mont-Blanc edition: 165.8 × 78 × 12.3 mm, 6.1″ LCD screen with waterdrop notch, more vintage

In terms of resistance, nothing is left to chance and this impression of robustness is immediately felt. IP68 and MIL-STD-810H certified, they withstand falls on concrete from up to 1.5 m, immersion in fresh, salt or chlorinated water, as well as temperatures ranging from -20 to 60°C. They can even be handled with gloves thanks to their physical buttons and textured grip. For the screen, Crosscall uses Corning with different glass depending on the model: Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for the X5s, Gorilla Glass 5 for the M6.

Strong even under the shell

These two devices are based on Qualcomm chips dedicated to the professional/IoT segment, guaranteeing reliability more than raw performance. It would be a lie to say that these were the thunderbolts of war; we quickly faced some unfortunate slowdowns. We therefore find a QCM5430 processor coupled with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage for the X5s, and a QCM4490 accompanied this time by a 6/128 GB tandem for the M6.

They share a 4,500 mAh battery, designed to exceed two days of use, in particular thanks to in-house software optimization, and benefit from 5G compatibility, wifi 6/6e, Bluetooth 5.2 and eSIM support. Professional accessories, such as a barcode reader, further extend their uses in the field.

The essentials for immortalizing your escapades

The Stellar-X5s aims to be more versatile in terms of photography with a dual module composed of a 50 megapixel main sensor, a 13 Mpx ultra wide-angle, and a 16 Mpx front camera. The Stellar-M6 makes do with a single 50 Mpx sensor at the back and 8 Mpx for selfies at the front. Tested in particularly favorable light conditions – but in an environment hardly compatible with the unadventurous temperament of the author of these lines, namely glacial hiking routes – the photos indeed flatter the retina.

Outdoor fashion: AI for peace of mind

This is one of the great new features of this Chamonix-Mont-Blanc edition: an intelligent Outdoor Mode, designed for those who live outdoors, whether they are guides, mountaineers, rescuers or craftsmen. This mode limits distractions, manages energy consumption and can automatically share location via SMS, even in the absence of a mobile network (3G, 4G or 5G). A function designed for safety above all.

Added to this is AI reduction of noise specific to extreme outdoor activities of up to -60 dBA in video, calls and recordings. Crosscall has in fact trained its AI to identify the sounds of cascading water, friction of technical clothing, wind, waves, in order to completely eliminate them. The company is therefore inspired by a function already seen on Pixel of Google and the Galaxy S25 from Samsung, by adapting it to its core target and the result is quite astonishing.

A rare promise of sustainability

Crosscall is not satisfied with material solidity; the brand also places its models in a true logic of longevity. They come with Android 15 and will benefit from software updates up to Android 18, while security patches are ensured until at least 2031.

Spare parts are available for ten years, and the manufacturer’s warranty extends for five years, battery included. Everything is part of a more responsible approach, with the use of 100% recycled aluminum, a polycarbonate back made up of half recycled materials and packaging free of plastic. Crosscall is therefore positioned as a European exception, in the same way as Fairphone.

In its virtuous all-in-one perspective, the manufacturer also offers X-Space, an office mode transforming the smartphone into a real workstation once connected to a monitor. Multiple windows, keyboard shortcuts: the firm is offering a more advanced experience than Samsung’s DeX mode, with a 4K display.

The Stellar-X5s Chamonix-Mont-Blanc edition is already priced at €699, while the M6 Chamonix-Mont-Blanc edition is priced at €369. Both are sold with an X-Blocker and a wrist strap, ready for immediate use in the field, whether for a climb, a professional activity or on a construction site.
