It had been announced across the Atlantic at less than $ 40,000, promised as an accessible revolution. In reality, the entry -level cybertruck never really existed. After an excessively slow launch And performances very much below her big brothers, Tesla decided to make disappear without drum or trumpet the cheapest version of her futuristic pick-up. The input ticket now climbs to $ 79,990. A choice that illustrates the strategic, even ideological turn of a brand that seems to draw a final line on the fantasy of the affordable electric car.

Tesla removes the propulsion cybertruck: the end of the pick-up myth at $ 40,000

For years, Elon Musk has promised a robust, futuristic… and financially accessible electricity pick-up. This Cybertruck was to start at 39,990 dollars. But between Keynote promises and industrial reality, the gap has widened. And today is the most modest model – the propulsion version, simple engine, 18 -inch rims, fabric seats, without rear screen, without bucket or pneumatic suspension – which disappears. Brutally, definitely.

This model displayed at 69,990 dollars (already far from the announced initial price) therefore becomes a ghost. In its place: the AWD version with two engines, much more efficient, but also more expensive of $ 10,000. Tesla erases the “budget” version of its offer from a click. Official reason? None. Unofficial reasons? Without doubt a mixture of industrial rationalization, margins to be preserved, and premium positioning assumed.

The truth is that the Cybertruck does not sell so well. Delivery figures drop quarter after quarter. And faced with competition more “truck” than “Cyber”, such as the F-150 Lightning or the electric Silverado, often cheaper, Tesla’s mastodon is struggling to convince.

Another worrying signal: Tesla finally agrees to take up the Cybertrucks… But with an abysmal discount. The model sold $ 100,000 a few months ago is now estimated at $ 65,400 per brand itself. A value fall of 35 % in less than a year, which completes the image of the futuristic pick-up.

Recall that to date, Cybertruck is not officially marketed in Europe. Tesla did not approve it for the European market, which prevents its large -scale legal sale.
