Death Stranding: Hideo Kojima announces an animated series soon on Disney+

The video game franchise Death Stranding continues its expansion. A few months after the release of a second game on PlayStation (Death Stranding 2: On the Beach), its famous creator Hideo Kojima has just announced a new adventure from his universe, with the formalization of a future animated series coming to Disney+.

“A new Death Stranding story”

It was during the conference on new Disney Asia Pacific creations, which took place last night in Hong Kong, that the news was revealed. It was Hideo Kojima himself who made this series official on stage, entitled Death Stranding: Isolations (working title).

This future animated program will tell the stories of new characters alongside that of Sam Bridges, the main protagonist of the game. It will follow its heroes and heroines following the cataclysmic explosion that wiped out all life on Earth, a phenomenon known as “Death Stranding”.

The official synopsis states: “while Sam Bridges travels the continent to save America, others, isolated, each try in their own way to overcome their loneliness. An old man seeks salvation other than through the connection advocated by Bridges. A warrior longs for a world of incessant fighting. A boy harbors a stubborn grudge against Bridges. A young girl embraces solitude. On the brink of the abyss of humanity and the end of the world, their destinies and their hopes converge, marking the beginning of a new Death Stranding story And now, a new explosion sounds…”

Produced by the relatively young Japanese animation studio E&H Production, known for Ninja Kamui And Project Bullet/Bulletthis series in traditional 2D animation is directed by Takayuki Sano (Attack on Titan, Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods). Hideo Kojima is one of the executive producers.

The creator of Death Strandingbut also cult video games Metal Gear Soliddeclared at the time of his presentation: “I grew up loving Japanese anime, and they shaped my view of the world. I’ve been a Disney fan since I was a kid, and I was thrilled that they were releasing my documentary on their platform. When they contacted me, I agreed to collaborate with them.”

Released in 2019, the first game Death Stranding received a good critical and public reception, and sold more than ten million copies. This next series once again confirms that video games are the new Eldorado of adaptations, particularly in terms of animation.

Thus, in addition to the recent Splinter Cell: Deathwatch from Netflixthe series Arcana, tomb Raider, Castlevania, The Witcher or even Devil May Cry have emerged for several years on various streaming platforms.

Death Stranding: Isolations is expected on Disney+ sometime in 2027, without further details.
