Disney+ wants to supervise account sharing with “additional subscriber”

As with Netflix, this option allows you to add a member to your home, even if it does not reside under the same roof. Disney recalls: “You cannot share your Disney+ subscription outside your home. A household corresponds to all the devices associated with your main personal residence and which are used by the people who live there.“”

The streaming platform offers two prices for this “additional subscriber” option according to the subscription selected by the main account:

  • € 4.99/month with a Disney+ Standard or Standard subscription with advertising
  • € 5.99/month with a Disney+ Premium subscription

Only an additional subscriber can be added to a Disney+account. This subscriber benefits from his own profile but does not have access to any of the main account options, which must also pay the invoice each month.

With this practice, Disney+ is inspired by Netflix which first offered such an option. Remember that lately is HBO Max who did the same.

Towards a more severe blocking of account sharing

It remains to be seen when Disney+ will really implement measures like Netflix to automatically block access to the service when a device is detected as being out of the home. Its Faq specifies elsewhere: “Disney+ automatically detects and defines your home according to different factors, including the activity of your subscription, associated devices and internet connection.“”

It also indicates that a message “This TV does not seem to be part of the Disney+ home for this account“can now appear on the devices deemed as being out of the defined household. An option to update the latter is fortunately proposed. It would seem that the free account sharing is therefore now finished on Disney+.
