After more than ten years of good and loyal service, the Dolby Vision evolves to follow the market for televisions which has clearly evolved recently, with ever more important luminous peak and covers of the colorimetric spaces that improve. This dynamic HDR format which allows you to play on the colorimetry and brightness of scene content by scene has been redesigned to integrate new features and, 2025 obliges: IA.

Among the striking new features, the Black Precision promises better readability in the dark scenes, while respecting the original aesthetics desired by the director. The idea is therefore to offer the best possible image quality, whatever the lighting conditions of the room during the day finally, the Dolby Vision 2 also introduces a tone bidirectional mapping, in order to better manage light peaks, to improve contrast and colors.

Authentic Motion to improve the fluidity of the images

If you regularly read digital TV tests, you know that movement compensation engines that improves the fluidity of the image are not our cup of tea. It causes an unnatural “Soap Opera” effect which is difficult to digest for its favorite films and series.

With its Authentic Motion, Dolby promises better management of fluidity here, making it possible to adjust it image by image. Ambition: reduce jerks (the famous judder) that can be observed in certain scenes transitions in particular, without betraying the director’s cinematic rendering. Difficult to say what the result will be without having tested it and we remain at the moment on the reserve on this functionality.

The LG G5 during our test.

The LG G5 during our test is compatible with Dolby Vision, but not Dolby Vision 2.

Two versions will be a priori proposed, a Dolby Vision 2 Max and a Dolby Vision 2. What are the differences concretely? It remains fairly vague at the moment it must be admitted, but we imagine that the maximum version will be reserved for the highest -end televisions.

The Dolby Vision 2 will in any case not retroactive and only new generation televisions will be able to take advantage of it. The first manufacturer to adopt this new standard will be Hisense, with its mini-LED RGB televisions to come. The other brands that already take advantage of Dolby Vision like TCL, LG, Panasonic or Philips will probably also follow.
