Don’t have anyone to play with? Ubisoft created a game with AI that listens to your orders
Ubisoft shows an AI that is able to grasp the player’s orders in all contexts. A few hundred people have access to Teammates in a very closed test according to the French publisher. The game takes place in a dystopian future where players take on the role of a member of the resistance who infiltrates an enemy base to find five missing teammates.

Teammates offers AI allies who understand everything
The main gameplay mechanic is to direct your AI teammates by voice to progress through missions. There are three virtual assistants: Jaspar, Pablo and Sofia.
AI teammates also analyze what the player is looking at to perform actions based on context. When the player asks Sofia to stand behind a barrel, the NPC identifies which one the player is looking at on the screen. An understanding of space which shows that Ubisoft wants to offer a perfect copy.
Jaspar serves as a tutorial to help players grasp the basic mechanics. Sofia and Pablo are also entitled to different personality profiles, because they are sometimes judged as too talkative by the players.
Rémi Labory, data and AI director at Ubisoft, highlights the potential of this technology: “This technology opens doors to new personalized experiences. Player input shapes character reactions in real time, something traditional development cannot accomplish. We are also delivering a full pipeline with the experience taking players from onboarding to debriefing, which is a first.”
In short, AI is everywhere and can, in certain cases like that of Teammateshave real added value. But other uses are much more controversial, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and its AI illustrations whereas this work could have been entrusted to human artists to give a real visual identity to the game.
