Presented in 2021, the second generation compact DS 4 sedan now goes through the restyling box and takes the opportunity to comply with the new brand nomenclature, becoming DS n ° 4.

The most blatant evolution is the adoption of a luminous grille. DS No. 4 is therefore inspired by the new N ° 8but here the lighting of the grille is horizontal and made up of dotted lines which connect the lights. Furthermore, and unlike n ° 8, all versions will be entitled to this same grille without distinction, and whatever the engine chosen.

The car is still 4.40 m long. Its hood has been lying to adapt to its new grille and the n ° 4 abandons its chrome. Only the outpouring doors are made of this metal whose environmental impact is today criticized.

At the rear, the abandonment of chrome in favor of Black Lacquered, called Dark Chrome, is the only real novelty, in addition to the new acronyms of the model. As for n ° 8, they abandon the brand’s logo in favor of lettering, not necessarily the most graceful.

Above all, the n ° 4 is available a 100 % electric election declination that was already expected in 2024, but whose exit was delayed. This version is driven by an electric motor of 157 kW (213 hp) and 343 Nm, powered by a useful 58.3 kWh battery.

DS N ° 4 E-Tense engine

This accumulator, of chemistry NMC 811 and sourced from Chinese Catl, takes a form of a Lorraine cross to integrate into the EMP2 platform, which had not initially been developed to accommodate 100 % electric traction chains. The autonomy then reached 450 km in the mixed cycle. It is quite little and the breaks at the charging stations promise to be long. DS thus promises a charging time of 20 to 80 % in about 30 min, which is far from current standards, with a peak power of only 120 kW. By alternating current, the DS n ° 4 E-Tense will be automatically equipped with an 11 kW three-phase charger.

Recharge DS N ° 4 E-TENSE

DS defends the technical sheet of its electric compact, shared with the Peugeot E-408by pleading the absence of direct competition. It is true that the Audi A3, Mercedes Class A and BMW Series 1 do not offer 100 % electric version. However, if this spectrum is extended to the last Mercedes CLA, certainly longer since Tricorps, the DS n ° 4 E-Tense is pale. The electric version of the CLA announces up to 797 km of autonomy and a charging time in 22 min, not 20 to 80 %, but from 10 to 80 %. Suffice to say that a world separates the two models. And if we can hope that n ° 4 E-Tense is distinguished with softer prices, partially compensating for its technological delay, it is certainly not as DS will finally succeed in imposing itself among premium manufacturers.

Otherwise, this electric version has an integrated route planner and a thermal preconditioning system of its battery, with manual or automatic activation. Pallets behind the steering wheel allow you to adjust the energy recovery at the foot sunrise on three levels, from 0.6 m/s2 2 m/s2 deceleration. Finally, the 430 L chest goes with the petrol engine at 390 L in an electric version. No front chest (fruit) does not complete this volume.
