Jared Isaacman explained that astronauts on the moon is a strategic priority. Reuters is based on the information of three sources close to the file then that Elon Musk had attacked NASA by decree that Mars is a more important objective. The meeting took place in the presence of Ted Cruz, republican senator and president of the Commercial Committee. His state of Texas houses the Johnson space center in Houston, a hub for the Lunarian program.

The Moon remains the main objective of NASA

According to two sources, Jared Isaacman claims that getting ahead of China in sending astronauts to the Moon is a national imperative. However, Donald Trump, who named him at the head of NASA, focuses on Martian exploration. The elected president promised, during his inaugural speech, to “Planting the American flag on Mars”without mentioning the lunar projects.

During Donald Trump's first term, the Artemis program was launched and represents federal investments of hundreds of millions of dollars. The mission seemed compromised by the apparent change in priority to focus on Mars. The project involves dozens of private companies that envisage the moon as a preparatory step for future Martian missions.

The doubts were amplified by the omnipresence of Elon Musk in the corridors of the White House. The billionaire wrote last week on X: “Stop at the moon simply slows the arrival on Mars”. However, the director of SpaceX has close links with Jared Isaacman, hence concerns.

Jared Isaacman is due to pass, on Wednesday, before the Senate Commerce Committee. Legislators will question him about his relations with SpaceX and his commitment to the US lunar program, considered essential by many players in the spatial sector and international allies.
