End of Windows 10: Excellent news, Microsoft offers an unexpected stay for Word, Excel and Outlook

Microsoft had initially planned to cut the support tap for its Microsoft 365 applications on Windows 10 from the official end of the system, in October 2025.
However, to everyone’s surprise, the Redmond firm reviews its copy. Applications like Word, Excel, Teams or Onedrive will continue to receive security updates for an additional three years. A gesture which, without freezing it, looks very much like an admission: the transition to Windows 11 is not as quickly as expected.
Microsoft 365: an unexpected stay on Windows 10 until 2028
The end of Windows 10 is set for October 14, 2025. Until recently, this deadline also meant the end of the support for the Microsoft 365 suite on this platform. But a post discreetly published on the Microsoft Tech Community blog has just denied this posture: M365 applications will finally benefit from extended support until October 10, 2028, with regular security updates.
In order to maintain security during your transition to Windows 11, Microsoft will continue to provide security updates for Microsoft 365 applications on Windows 10 for three years after the end of Windows 10 support. These updates will be broadcast via the usual update channels, until October 10, 2028.
This extension aims to support companies and individuals faced with Windows 11 hardware requirements – Too strict for many still functional machines. Microsoft admits it with lips: the use of its apps on an obsolete bone could cause “Performance and reliability problems”but the essential functions will remain operational. Clearly, the message is simple: you can stay on Windows 10 … but at your own risk.
In order not to take risks precisely, Microsoft will therefore inject three years of additional rustins in its software, via conventional update channels. Windows 10 machines will thus partially remain in the race, while the structures finalize their switch.
