Windows 11 has required, since its launch, strict technical criteria : TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, recent processors … However, several users claim to have received an update offer to Windows 11 – or to its new 24H2 version – while their machine does not meet these requirements. A paradox pointed out by Borncity and Neowin, two serious sources which confirm this unexpected shift in the deployment policy of Microsoft.

A LENOVO IDEAPAD S145, equipped with an 8th generation Intel processor but with TPM deactivated in the UEFI, received an invitation to go to Windows 11. The offer came directly from a Microsoft patch, the KB5001716, normally intended to facilitate migration.
Same scenario observed in business: some parks under Windows 10, managed via WSUS, saw an update proposal to 11 – without the minimum conditions being met.
Windows 11 was offered to me while my TPM chip was disabled. Microsoft goes beyond its own criteria.
These cases ask a real question: would Microsoft discreetly soften his technical criteria? Officially, nothing has changed. The requirements are always the same, and any installation on a non -compliant machine is supposed to be blocked. But in practice, the system sometimes offers the upgrade, even if it means failing later, or accompanied by a message of waiver of the support.
An assumed strategy … or a life -size test?
Microsoft does not impose installation. The user can refuse the offer. But if he accepts, a screen informs him that he will not benefit from official support or updated guarantees. A form of non-liability clause that can confuse, especially for an uninformed audience.
This shift raises a broader issue. Windows 10 free support stops on October 14, 2025. And unless you opt for Extended updates (ESU), paidmillions of PCs will remain vulnerable. Offering Windows 11 to non-compatible machines could be a diverted way of accelerating the rocking, even if it means crossing the lines that the company had itself traced.
Temporary bug or doctrine change? Impossible to say today. But one thing is certain: if Microsoft begins to ignore his own rules, it is because he is preparing himself, perhaps, to force a little more hand to latecomers.
