The noose tightens around pirate television consumers in Italy. This week, more than two thousand subscribers to IPTV illegal services received a fine at home, in the wake of a large -scale criminal investigation. Thanks to an unprecedented protocol between the judicial authorities, the financial police and the communications regulator, the police can now sanction end users, and no longer only the operators of the system.

IPTV illegal: 2,282 Italians receive a fine at home

The era of impunity seems to be over for lovers of illegal IPTV in Italy. This week, the Guardia Di Finanza struck hard: 2,282 subscribers were identified and ordered to pay a fine of € 154, for having used services illegally distributed protected audiovisual content. And the message is clear: in the event of a recurrence, the sanction increases to € 5,000.

This first wave of sanctions is based on law 93/2023, a muscular text which allows not only the real -time blocking of pirate flows (via the Piracy Shield system), but also the repression of simple users. Thanks to the data from a punching operation in Lecce, the authorities have got hold of databases containing e-mails and identifiers linked to these illegal subscriptions.

The world of Italian football, a loser in this parallel economy, salutes the initiative. Claudio Lotito, senator and president of Lazio, welcomed the concrete application of the law: “No more joke.” For his part, the president of AC Milan, Paolo Scaroni, recalls that “The law exists, it is simply necessary to apply it”. Same story on the inter -side side, where Giuseppe Marotta evokes a paradigm shift: after the warning, make way for direct expulsion.

“Before, it was the yellow card. Today is the red card”said Benpus Marotta, president of Inter, to our Italian colleagues from Sky Sport. It remains to be seen whether this policy of massive sanctions will really dissuade subscribers, or if it will simply feed a game from the cat and the digital mouse.
